Gift of Friendship Furthers MoA Collection

Good news for museum goers. SNU's Museum of Modern Art (MoA) added its first Italian copperplate to its print collection thanks to SNU's efforts to diversify its international exchanges.

Celebrating the second exhibition of The Double Dream of Art: 2RC - Between the Artist and the Artifice, the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Korea and the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul donated a large print, Sogno 1 (200 x 100 cm, etching on a copperplate) by Arnaldo Pomodoro, an Italian artist known for abstract sculptures.

The donation marks the culmination of outstanding cultural ties between SNU and the Italian government as the series of art exhibitions at MoA have been co-hosted by SNU, the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute since 2008.

In his remarks of appreciation, Professor CHUNG Hyung-min, the director of MoA, said"this donation will be remembered as a gift of friendship between SNU and Italy as well as a cornerstone which will prompt in-depth cultural exchanges between Korea and Italy."

Dr. Luccis Izzo, the director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul, agreed saying that"considering the number of exchange programs SNU has established with the finest Italian institutions including Accademia di Belle Arti Firenze, Istituto Europeo di Design, Sapienza - Universita di Roma, and Universita Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, the prospects for further cooperation between the two countries seem bright."

This summer, another SNU-Italian exhibition, Spring in White, will be held at MoA and in Italy consecutively. The exhibition, including pieces by SNU alumni, will serve as an opportunity to present modern Korean art to the Italian audience.
