Distinguished SNU Members

Seoul National University honors the people who made distinguished achievements in their lives with the Distinguished SNU Members Award. It has been the highest honor bestowed upon SNU alumni or faculty since 1991. The award is granted annually on the founding anniversary of the university during the official anniversary ceremony.

Hong Seok-Hyun/Chairman of JoongAng Holdings

Since becoming the president of the JoongAng group as a representative journalist of the Republic of Korea, he has grown the JoongAng Group, a global media network covering newspapers, broadcasting, and entertainment. In addition to serving as the Korean Ambassador to the U.S. and the U.S. Special Envoy to the President, He has established a global network as the Chairman of the World Culture Open Organizing Committee and the Vice Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Group of the Trilateral Committee. He continues his efforts to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula and to sustainable development as the Chairman of the Korean Peninsula Peace Creation Committee.

Jung Young-Sun/CEO of SeoAhn Total Landscape(STL)

As Korea's first-generation landscape architect and first female land development technician, she left monumental works such as apartments and commemorative parks in the 1986 Asian Games, Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park, Cheonggyecheon Restoration Project, and Gyeongchun Line Forest Road Park. In particular, the Seonyudo Park project is considered to have created a botanical garden and a purification garden with a modern sense by recycling water purification facilities. In recognition of his contribution, she was the first Korean to receive the "Sir Geoffrey Jellico Award," which is called the Nobel Prize in the landscape.

In 1991, he opened a small theater(Hak-jeon) in Daehak-ro and led the theater company for about 33 years, serving as a stepping stone for artists, and he also made a great contribution to the Korean culture and art world by singing music with the emotions of the people and performing various creative musicals and plays on the stage. While in university, he started his music career and wrote and composed songs that were loved by the people, such as "Morning Dew" and "Ever Green tree." In addition, the representative musical "Subway Line 1" was praised for delicately depicting the lives of small citizens and touched the hearts of more than 8,000 performances and 700,000 audiences.
