In-person University Orientation Event Held for Freshmen

For the first time in two years, Seoul National University held the "Freshmen Orientation" event for first-year students of 2022 in a hybrid format by including programs students could attend in person.

This event was conducted entirely online last year, but for this year, a series of five in-person sessions were held for 1,250 students and was attended by 250 students each, from January 13, Thursday to February 15, Tuesday. Some of the programs were broadcast on YouTube for the students who were unable to attend in person.

The university took preventive measures against COVID-19 by limiting the in-person event to students who have received vaccination and installing a state-of-the-art full-body disinfection machine at the entrance of the event hall.

The event consisted of Part 1 (introduction of academic and campus life, special lectures with guest speakers, human rights education, etc.), which was hosted by the university administrative organizations, and Part 2 (mentoring session, mission tour, team power program), which was led by the mentors. SNU alumni, including President Oh Se-Jung of Seoul National University, Professor Roe Jung-hye (College of Biological Sciences), who is the former President of the National Research Foundation of Korea, Professor Choi Incheol (Department of Psychology), Song Kiyoung, the founder of Sualab, and Sang-il Ahn, CEO of Hyperconnect, were invited as the guest speakers for the freshmen.

Seoul National University expects this hybrid Freshmen Orientation event to instill in the first-year students a sense of identity, belonging, and pride as Seoul National University students and help them adapt to campus life by forming student networks, which have been limited due to COVID-19.
