SNU-NCAR Weather and Climate Center Established

SNU President and NCAR Director has just signed MOU

On August 1 SNU co-established the Korea - USA Weather and Climate Center with the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) to facilitate research on climate change analysis and forecasting.

After SNU President Oh Yeon Cheon and the Director of NCAR Roger Wakimoto signed an MOU for the establishment of the research center, they also decided to develop new models for improved forecasting of disasters and to foster future world-class scientists in this field of study.

NCAR is a research institution in the field of atmospheric science operated by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), which is a collaborative community of scientists from 68 different universities in North America. It is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation.

This establishment was brought about as a result of KIST's efforts to induce overseas advanced research centers to collaborate with advanced Korean institutions. This collaboration between SNU and NCAR will bring about academic advancements and practical solutions regarding climate issues both within and beyond Korea's national borders.
