Legendary Journalist Alumnus LEE Chang Hwa Donated to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
LEE Chang Hwa, an alumnus of SNU’s Department of Korean Language and Literature and currently a member of the board of directors of Shin Young Incorporated, has agreed to donate 400 million KRW to SNU to establish the ‘Mother PARK Sun Keun Yangji Scholarship Fund’ named after his grandmother. The scholarship will be provided to students of SNU’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The donator, LEE Chang Hwa worked as a reporter at Chosun Ilbo, but was fired due to his involvement in a demonstration for free press. He was formally recognized as a figure involved in the democratization movement in 2001. After that he promoted the formation of Hankyoreh Newspaper, and worked for the development center of Hankyoreh Newspaper where he dealt with construction management.
Building CHAE Ho Seok Scholarship Fund -"Find the Most Talented Engineer"
The bereaved family of the deceased CHAE Ho Seok (who entered the SNU Department of Electrical Engineering in 1948, and a former CEO of Hyeop Jin Precision Industry Ltd., deceased in 2010) established the ‘CHAE Ho Seok Scholarship Fund’ by donating 200 million KRW to SNU on April 12.
The president of Tagore Society KIM Yang Sik, the wife of the deceased, and Mr. Chae Je Han, the son of the deceased, participated in the donation agreement ceremony and said that they were establishing the scholarship fund in accordance with the will of the deceased, who pursued his work and studies under harsh circumstances.
The purpose of the foundation is to find and nurture talented young people who will lead the future of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the College of Engineering. Funding will be provided to students of the department who have achieved brilliant academic success and who have great financial need.
