'Doosan Humanities Building' to be Constructed

SNU and Doosan held a ceremony on the 4th floor of the administrative building of SNU marking the conclusion of the construction agreement on the new 'SNU-Doosan Humanities Building'.

Doosan has donated 5 billion won for the construction of the Doosan Humanities Building and this donation is slated specifically for the reconstruction of the 'Yon Kang Memorial Hall’ which is named after the late PARK Doo Byung, who was the first president of Doosan and used the alias Yon Kang. The Yon Kang Commemoration Hall was first built in 1974, funded by generous donations from Park himself, who once filled the position of president of SNU's general alumni association.

With construction expected to get underway in 2011, the Doosan Humanities Building will measure approximately 3530 m² (or 1,070 pyung), equipped with lecture rooms, study rooms and seminar rooms. One of the lecture halls will be named the 'Yon Kang Lecture Hall’ in memory of the late Doosan company founder.

President OH Yeon Cheon said,"It is my hope that through the construction of the Doosan Humanities Building a small step is made toward the advancement of the humanities field along with the nurturing of many talented people within it. SNU promises to work even harder towards achieving this goal.”

Doosan President PARK Yong Hyun stated, “I am incredibly joyous to be able to donate funds for the (re)construction of the Doosan Humanities Building and the Yon Kang Memorial Hall. It is especially meaningful as this year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of my late father.”
