Reaching Out: Admissions Guidance Session for International Students Draws Many

“I would like to know more about the welfare system of Korea and believe that, because of its finest research programs on the subject, SNU is the right place to be,” Anna Galyautdinova, a graduate of State Social University in Moscow, explained regarding her prospective pursuit of a master’s degree at SNU.

On February 4th, the Office of Admissions held an Admissions Guidance Session for the international students at the Language Education Institute. The session was conducted in three languages- English, Chinese, and Korean- and a general guideline of the application process, followed by a Q & A session, was provided.

For over one hundred students who attended the session, the details of writing an online application, such as creating an applicant account, saving data, and submitting academic records and recommendations, were extensively covered as well as evaluation criteria which many students found helpful.

LEE Seung-yeon, a research fellow at the Office of Admissions, commented that “unlike those in the past who satisfied minimal requirements, recent applicants aggressively highlight their academic and extracurricular achievements, attaching several certificates and other documents.”

She added that to meet the growing interest and heightened level of competitiveness in international admissions, the Office looks forward to offering more occasions to meet the needs of international students who are considering undertaking degree programs at SNU.

The number of international students coming to SNU has been steadily increasing, and SNU is now home to over 3,000 international students from 88 countries enrolled in various programs. Currently, the Office of Admissions holds the Admissions Guidance Session for international students every February and June.
