Professor KIM In-june Becomes the President of Korean Economic Association

KIM In-june, Professor of Economics at College of Sciences took office as the President of Korean Economic Association (KEA) which is the largest group of economics professors and scholars in Korea.

On his inauguration on Feb. 12, Professor Kim presented his new paper"Current Issues of Korean Economy Upon Global Financial Crisis".

During the presentation, he called on the government to take a more aggressive role in corporate restructuring as it did during the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis.

"Corporate restructuring will not be faithful if it is led only by financial institutions. As the economic conditions are worsening much faster than expected, the government should take the lead in restructuring," Kim said. His warning raised debates on government's role.

Professor Kim graduated Dartmouth and earned Ph.D. of economics from Harvard.  He was a former chief editor of The Korean Economics Review, a renowned English-language journal on Korean economics. His research field is open economics and international economics.
