SNU Ranks 16th Worldwide for Bringing up CEOs

In a highly competitive globalized world where today's innovative ideas are tomorrow's potential riches, the ability of any country to attract bright minds to its universities is naturally a parameter of interest to the global investment community.

The newly-published 2008 Professional Ranking of World Universities from Ecole des Mines de Paris ranks the reputations of top 350 universities worldwide, using criterias such as the number of CEO-position alumni in the world’s 500 leading companies (as rated by Fortune 500 in 2007).

The Professional Ranking of World Universities ranked SNU 16th, up from 32nd in 2006, for a total of five CEO-position alumni; Jong Yong Yun (Samsung Electronics), Ku-Taek Lee (Posco), Yu-Sig Kang (LG), Soo Chang Lee (Samsung Life Insurance), and Joong-Su Nam (KT).

However, a careful feedback on the list showed that four more SNU alumni surfaced from the list of CEOs with unrecognized universities due to lack of information. Therefore, the additional CEOs recognized; Dong-Jin Kim (Hyundai Motors), Joon-Ho Han (Korea Electric Power), Keh-Sik Min & Kil-Seon Choi (Hyundai Heavy Industries); puts SNU among the top ten on the list with an actual total of nine CEO-position alumni in the world’s top 500 companies.

Other Korean universities on the list include Korea University at 64th, and Yonsei University in 89th place.
