Professor Kyong Soo Park at SNU Hospital analyzed a diabetic gene in Asian people and determined how it functioned.
Park had jointly conducted the research with scientists at the Korean National Institute of Health and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
In the analysis of genes from 67-hundred people, the research team determined that diabetic genes found in Asian people are similar to those in Western diabetes patients.
The team found some unknwon diabetic genes such as TCF7L2, SLC30A8, HHEX, CDKAL1, CDKN2A/CDKN2B, IGF2BP2 and FTO.
The findings were published on August in an international journal Diabetes whose impact factor is 7.955.
