The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Seoul National University in 1970, has been nominated as the 105th Honorary Doctorate receiver by SNU.

Ban Ki-moon served as a diplomat over 30 years and is currently leading the UN as Secretary-General. SNU deemed highly of Mr. Ban’s substantial contribution to world peace and the welfare of humanity, thus judging him well-qualified to have an Honorary Doctorate.

Since 1948, Honorary Doctorates were conferred on 96 foreigners and 8 Koreans by SNU including the former president of University of Tokyo Sasaki Takeshi and Cardinal Kim, Soo Hwan.

The conferment ceremony of Honorary Doctorate Degree will take place at SNU in July, 2008 after the university confirms the schedule with the Secretariat of the UN.
