In this professional ranking of world universities, Seoul National University came in 32nd place.

The Ecole des Mines identified the number of alumni holding a Chief Executive Officer position (CEO) in the 500 leading enterprises selected as Fortune magazine’s “Global Fortune 500” in 2006. “Global Fortune 500” included twelve Korean enterprises such as Samsung Electronics. From the CEOs at 432 enterprises out of the 500 enterprises where information on alumni was available, the Ecole des Mines ranked 338 institutions.

In the ranking Harvard University and Tokyo University came the first and the second place respectively. Seoul National University attained the first place in Korea coming 32nd in the global ranking. Sungkyunkwan University followed by 81th, both Hanyang Univesity and Yonsei University ranked 89th, and Korea University ranked 214th.

Shanghai ranking conducted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University focused essentially on the performance of higher education institutions in research, and The Times on comprehensive aspects of researches and education which ranked Seoul National University as 51th in 2007. However, the Ecole des Mines de Paris ranking focused its attention on institutions that practically trained prominent features leading world-wide enterprises.

Ickhyun Nam, dean of Office of Planning & Development said, “This ranking is particularly meaningful as its criterion evaluated the ability of each institution to train world leaders who contribute to international economy in practice. I think Seoul National University being able to attain 32nd place in the ranking owes much to its ability to train CEOs leading world-wide enterprises as well as inclusion of many Korean enterprises in the “Global Fortune 500.” I will do my best to see Seoul National University continuously contribute to Korea’s economic development.”
