SNU and Carnegie Mellon University Inaugurate Joint “Human-Centered AI Research Center”

The SNU-CMU Human-Centered AI Research Center (HCAI Center), jointly established by Seoul National University (SNU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), held its inaugural ceremony on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at SNU’s Gwanak Campus.

As the first research center in Korea founded through collaboration between two world-renowned universities, the HCAI Center aims to advance research and development in Human-Centered AI. Building on CMU’s global leadership in artificial intelligence, SNU will work with CMU to spearhead the creation of AI technologies that prioritize accessibility, ethics, and social value.

During the ceremony, the HCAI Center presented its vision and objectives for collaborative research between SNU and CMU. The center’s goal is to address critical challenges facing AI, strengthen cooperation among the researchers from both institutions, and ultimately establish itself as a global innovation hub. It also showcased key achievements from its first year of joint research, highlighting how responsible, human-centered AI can contribute to society. Attended by leading faculty from both SNU and CMU, the event featured a lively networking session and discussions on the center’s future research directions. Supported by the combined expertise of SNU and CMU, the HCAI Center is expected to usher in a new era of human-centered AI technology.
