In celebration of the Seoul National University's founding anniversary on October 15, the ‘78th Founding Anniversary Ceremony’ was held on October 14 at the Global Education Center for Engineers Auditorium on the Gwanak Campus. The event, attended by many members of the university community, included a program featuring the national anthem, award presentations, the announcement of the "Proud SNU Alumni" selections, a commemorative speech by President Hong-lim Ryu, congratulatory remarks from Jong-seop Kim, President of the Alumni Association, a performance by the student club "Meari," and the singing of the school anthem.
Every year at the founding anniversary ceremony, individuals who have brought honor to the university are recognized with awards. These include long-service awards for faculty and staff with 40, 30, and 20 years of service; the Gwanak Volunteer Award for students who have significantly contributed to volunteer activities; the Social Service Activity Essay Award for outstanding students selected based on essays they have written; awards from related institutions (Gwanak Police Station, Gwanak District Office, Gwanak Fire Station, Siheung City Hall); and the Faculty Council President's Award for students who set an example for others or achieve outstanding accomplishments based on recommendations from their academic advisors.
Following the awards presentations, certificates were awarded to individuals selected as 'Proud SNU Alumni.' These honorees have demonstrated exceptional character and virtue, making significant contributions to national and societal development, thereby enhancing the honor of Seoul National University. The 34th Proud SNU Alumni honorees included the late Min-ki Kim, former CEO of Hakchon Theater Company; Young-sun Jung, CEO of Seoahn Co., Ltd.; and Seok-hyun Hong, Chairman of JoongAng Holdings. Notably, this year's ceremony featured 'Morning Dew' and 'Evergreen Tree,' iconic songs by the late Min-ki Kim, performed by the student club 'Meari,' which added emotional depth to the event.
