On Tuesday, September 5th, Seoul National University held an event at the Grass Square on Gwanak Campus to celebrate reaching 100,000 followers on its official Instagram account. This event, titled "SNU Official, Congratulations on 100,000 followers!" added vibrancy to the campus just at the beginning of a new semester, featuring coffee vans, pop-up booths, and photo spots.
Seoul National University's official Instagram account 'SNU Official' (@snu.official), was started in February 2020, and has become an engaging communication channel for both current and prospective students. In August, it reached the milestone of 100,000 followers. The account not only shares academic announcements, campus life information, and major events but also offers diverse content such as campus sceneries and webtoons to bring the university closer to its members.
This event was organized to celebrate the achievement of 100,000 followers on Seoul National University's official Instagram account and to encourage students starting the second semester. Under the subtitle "President Treats You!", President Honglim Ryu personally distributed coffee to students and spread joy at the coffee van. The coffee was provided in reusable cups to approximately 1,000 university members following the account 'SNU Official’.
At pop-up booths, commemorative items based on content uploaded on the university’s Instagram account were distributed. In collaboration with the Social Media Student Journalists, students created stickers, keychains, and even webtoon characters they drew themselves. A photo zone was also set up to introduce Seoul National University's official social media accounts. The 'Silver Button' (a YouTube Creator Award given to channels with over 100,000 subscribers) received by Seoul National University's official YouTube channel, which has 165,000 followers, was displayed and thus also received significant attention.
Seoul National University has been actively engaging in external communication as well, such as winning the prestigious iF Design Award in 2021, one of the world's top three design awards, for its official website. In addition to Instagram, the university plans to continue to share campus news in a timely and friendly manner, through various media channels such as Facebook, YouTube, KakaoTalk, magazines, and newsletters.
