On September 26, SNU President SUNG Nak-in visited Silicon Valley, California. President Sung’s visited the area to to attend The Times Higher Education World Academic Summit 2016, held at the University of California, Berkeley and to hold a conference with other SNU alumni working for international corporations.
The Times Higher Education World Summit is held annually and is a gathering place for leading education institutes. At these summits, topics such as funding for education, the role education in class society, and the relationship between universities and businesses are discussed. The theme for the 2016 Summit was “World-Class Universities and the Public Good.” The Summit’s theme was in accord with President Sung’s meetings with other SNU alumni, where he discussed the influence of university education on society and the onset of the digital age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the advent of cyber-physical systems that is expected to exceed our current digital age.
An alumnus at the meeting, sharing his experience of working at an international corporation in the Silicon Valley, mentioned that “experience in various fields such as humanities, social sciences, arts, sciences, etc is greatly needed.”
