SNU Hospital’s public medical service team and the Chungbuk Agricultural Cooperative Federation cooperated to offer free medical services to residents of farming villages in Chungbuk province.
Starting June 8, 35 SNU Hospital doctors, nurses and medical staff from departments including those of Rehabilitation Medicine, Family Medicine, and Ophthalmology gathered to visit a number of farming villages around the province over a period of three days.
KIM Byung Kook, the president of the Chungbuk Agricultural Cooperative Federation, explained that these visits were especially helpful because public transportation is not convenient in rural provinces like Chungbuk for residents to visit the hospital.
A total of approximately 500 senior citizens, low-income families, and multicultural families that experience these difficulties received treatment during the three days. Furthermore, the medical team also supplied one medical kit containing household medicine per family and provided lectures on the prevention of senile dementia, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other illnesses.
In addition to medical diagnosis, volunteers from the Agricultural Cooperative Federation also provided services such as longevity photo shoots, manicures, and hairdressing.
A member of the Agricultural Cooperative Federation stated that low-income families and multicultural families were prioritized in the treatment process. The federation also intends to further augment opportunities for free medical treatment and volunteer programs for marginalized people in our society that have difficulty receiving diagnosis and treatment in hospitals.
