This fall semester, SNU will be opening a class on life and happiness.
“There has been a lot of talk about creating courses about refining character. We are going through an administrative process in order to open a class with the topic of life and happiness,” said Professor YU Jaejun, associate dean of SNU Faculty of Liberal Education.
The school plans to make the class an extension of the spring semester’s Human Nature and the Good Life. The upcoming course will be divided into two parts: Happiness and Life.
Three professors will lecture for each class, allowing students opportunities to learn from different perspectives. Professors from three disciplines – psychology, science, and philosophy – will cooperate to teach the class on happiness, while professors from biology, philosophy, and humanities will come together to teach the class on life.
Up to 150 students can sign up for each class. After each class, students will be divided into groups of 40 to 50 for group discussions regarding the class material.
