Seoul National University was incorporated earlier this year with the aim of being among the absolute elite in the world of research. In an effort to achieve this goal, SNU decided to establish the “Leading Creative Researchers Support Project.”

SNU elected 8 of its most promising scientists to lead groundbreaking research projects: Professors IHM Jisoon (Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics), PARK Seong Hoe (Immunogenetics), and KIM Kyu Won (NeuroVascular Coordination) as leading creative researchers; and Professors HYEON Taeg Hwan (Nano Materials), KIM V. Narry (MicroRNA), KIM Sung Hoon (Drug Targeting), BAEK Sung Hee (Chromatin Dynamics), and KWON Sunghoon (BioMEMS and Nano Engineering) as ‘young’ leading creative researchers.
The researchers will be supported annually with 400 million KRW (360,000 US dollars) for leading creative researchers, and an annual amount of 260 million KRW (233,000 US dollars) for young leading creative researchers – in addition to administrative support such as overseas travel and reduced class hours.
Seoul National University will consistently support the researchers to provide a solid and comprehensive foundation for creative research and to raise the possibility of a future Nobel Prize award or equivalent level international awards being received by the faculty.
