Abstract
After the vision of computing utility had been introduced at mid 1960, nowadays Cloud Computing has tried to realize the vision. Nowadays, the concept of ?Intercloud? (cloud of clouds) connecting remote cloud resources at different data centers through networks is necessary to satisfy the different scales of user demand. The Intercloud requires two kinds of virtualizations: compute and network virtualization. Research projects (i.e., Nebular) for future Internet propose new network architectures which can provide secure and flexible access control over highly-available and extensible future core networks which are not available yet. To support those research activities, it is necessary to build cyberinfrastructures which accelerate those researches on network virtualization and non-existing future networks. Global Environment for Network Innovation (GENI) project consisting of more than 50 projects has developed reconfigurable virtual networking testbeds and collaborating environment for cloud computing projects. The speaker will present one of GENI projects, Cyberinfrastructure for Reconfigurable Optical Networks (CRON), and describe how the CRON testbed supports the research on Intercloud and Future Internet.
