Abstract
A short historical review of the physics and technology of the semiconductor heterostructures new type of the materials for information technology and energy conversion is described.
Recent progress in quantum dot structures for lasers, LEDs, and heterostructure multijunction high efficient solar cells and future trends in the development of these new types of heterostructures are discussed.
