Lecture Overview
Tohru Horiguchi (Professor, Kinki University, Japan)
Prof. Horiguchi specializes in modern architectural theory and intercultural architectural education.
This lecture takes inspiration from Jun'ichirō Tanizaki's "In Praise of Shadows" and examines how the concept of "shadows" has been expressed in Japanese architecture and urban spaces.
Through scenes from various Japanese films spanning different eras, the lecture will explore how the atmosphere and meaning of shadowed spaces have evolved. The talk is divided into seven key themes, including the intriguing concept of "bright shadows."
