Greetings from Global Development Institute for Public Affairs, SNU!
The GDI Colloquium series III ' Community-Wide Benefits of Wind Energy : Evidence from the United States' will be held on Friday, 20 June 10:00 - 11:30 AM at Rm. 114 Bldg. 57-1, GSPA, SNU.
The 2025 GDI Colloquium Series III will explore the community-wide effects of wind energy infrastructure on local development, with a particular focus on property value impacts and the broader distribution of economic benefits.
This session features a keynote presentation by Professor David Schwegman from American University, based on his current research paper, “Uplifting Winds: The Surprisingly Positive Community-Wide Impact of Wind Energy Installations on Property Values.” The study provides new empirical evidence that challenges conventional assumptions by showing how the benefits of wind installations extend beyond immediate proximity, influencing entire communities.
Building on his broader body of work—including studies on local fiscal benefits of solar energy and renewable development—this presentation will initiate discussion on how to measure and promote equitable outcomes from energy infrastructure projects. Faculty from the Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University will join in a policy-oriented dialogue to derive practical insights that inform the sustainable and inclusive expansion of renewable energy.
