2025 Seoul National University Sculpture Department Baek Jeong-gi Artist Discourse: The Creative Human, The Emerging World Special Lecture Announcement

May 08, 2025

Hello,

The Department of Sculpture will hold a special lecture featuring artist Baek Jeong-gi on Thursday, May 8th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This is a valuable opportunity to engage directly with an artist actively working in both domestic and international art scenes, so we invite all members of the university who are interested in contemporary art to attend.

Baek Jeong-gi (b. 1981) explores the essence of materials and investigates concrete themes of interest. His artistic practice connects these inquiries with scientific experiments and creative artistic results, shaping both the process and the visualized outcomes. His studio resembles either a scientist’s laboratory or a well-organized small-scale factory. He has continuously examined humanity’s attitudes toward environmental concerns from past to future, integrating natural environments and traditional superstitions with current scientific advancements and philosophical perspectives—showcasing extraordinary artistic creativity.

Baek Jeong-gi earned his BFA in Sculpture from Kookmin University in 2004 and later studied Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art in the UK in 2008. He has held solo exhibitions at Arario Gallery Seoul (2023), OCI Museum (2019), and Alternative Space Loop (2012), among others. Since 2004, he has participated in exhibitions at major Korean institutions such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, Amorepacific Museum of Art, SongEun Art Space, and Leeum Museum of Art.
