The 7th GyeWon Physics Lecture for the General Public
The Center for Theoretical Physics at Seoul National University will host the "7th GyeWon Physics Lecture for the General Public."
This lecture series was established in honor of the late Professor Hee-Sung Song, who made pioneering contributions to the development of theoretical physics in Korea and founded the Center for Theoretical Physics at SNU as its first director. Aimed at promoting public understanding of modern physics—an essential literacy for members of today’s society—this series features accessible yet intellectually engaging talks by leading physicists.
The 7th GyeWon Physics Lecture will be held on Friday, May 2nd at 4:30 PM in Room 101 of Building 28 (Large Lecture Hall), College of Natural Sciences, Seoul National University. Professor Jong-Pil Lee of Konkuk University’s Sanghuh College will deliver a lecture titled "Why You Need to Understand How Physicists Think."
Professor Lee earned his bachelor's and doctoral degrees in particle physics from Seoul National University. He has authored numerous popular science books, including 30 Must-Read Books in Physics, The Way Scientists Think, Physics: From Quarks to the Universe, Project Einstein for Office Workers, When Our Attitude Is Scientific, and In Search of the God Particle. He has also translated several titles, including the Principles of Physics series, Every Moment of Science in Pictures, The Black Hole War, and The Dream of a Final Theory, making science more accessible and enjoyable to the public.
In this lecture, Professor Lee will explore science as the most successful "knowledge creation platform" in history, focusing on the unique thinking methods of scientists. Through various examples, the audience will gain insight into how scientists and physicists—those who have led revolutions in thought—formulate ideas. The lecture will also address why it is essential to learn their way of thinking in the era of artificial intelligence, and how it can help us reimagine the world in our everyday lives, even outside of science.
We warmly invite all members of the university community to join this engaging lecture, which aims to make physics accessible to everyone.

Title: "Why You Need to Understand How Physicists Think"
Abstract: In the age of artificial intelligence, what we need is not more information, but a platform for creating knowledge. Science has long served this role, and physics, in particular, remains the archetype of this success. But why has science been so successful? What exactly do scientists—especially physicists—think, and how do they think? This talk explores the groundbreaking ways physicists have shaped innovation throughout history. These ways of thinking will help audiences gain a fresh perspective not only on science but also on their everyday lives.
