Special Lecture – SNU Institute for Korean Studies Between Game and Martial Law: The Political Turn of the Squid Game Series

Apr 18, 2025

Greetings,

The Hallyu Research Team of the SNU Institute for Korean Studies is pleased to host a special lecture.

In Squid Game 2 on Netflix, director Hwang Dong-hyuk draws a parallel between the pro- and anti-Yoon Suk-yeol protests and an “O/X vote,” raising questions about the democratic system of majority rule. This lecture will explore the Squid Game series in relation to political consciousness in the aftermath of martial law.
