The Institute of Japanese Studies hosts seminars in Japanese, Korean, and English, inviting experts from Japan, Korea, Europe, and the United States to discuss a variety of topics encompassing Japan’s politics, economy, society, culture, and arts.
The upcoming 291st Expert from Japan Seminar will be held under the theme "Disaster, Philosophy, and East Asia: Exploring East Asian Humanities of Disasters" (災難・哲学・東アジアー東アジア災害人文学の試みから). We invite everyone interested in this topic to join us.

Overview: The speaker, as the representative of the collaborative research team "Establishing East Asian Humanities of Disasters" at the Institute for Research in Humanities, Kyoto University, has been conducting joint research with scholars from diverse disciplines in the humanities and natural sciences. In this seminar, an outline of the forthcoming publication "Introduction to East Asian Humanities of Disasters: Humanities Addressing Climate Change and the Era of Frequent Disasters" will be presented. Additionally, four perspectives—"the concept of disasters, disaster heritage, philosophical practice, and East Asian collaboration"—will be discussed from the standpoint of disaster humanities.
