2024 Undergraduate Advanced Experimental Equipment Experience Program for Basic Science: Application Announcement

As part of the Student Autonomous Education Program, the SNU Institute for General Education, in collaboration with the Basic Science Research Facility, offers undergraduate students the opportunity to directly experience a variety of advanced experimental equipment and conduct research utilizing these tools. We encourage enthusiastic participation from undergraduates who aspire to grow as creative professionals by engaging in advanced experimental equipment analysis, which is often not easily accessible.

1. Application Deadline:

  • By Thursday, December 26, 2024

3. Selection Process:

  • Applications will be reviewed, and successful applicants will be individually notified by Friday, December 27, 2024.

4. Program Overview and Schedule

  • Program Dates:
    January 6 (Monday) – January 17 (Friday), 2025
    Daily from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM (10 days total)

  • Program Venue:
    Basic Science Research Facility (Building 139), Education Seminar Room (2F, Room 205) and respective equipment rooms

  • Program Content:

    • Thematic Lectures
    • Hands-on Practice, Equipment Tours
    • Execution of Individual Research Themes
    • Data Analysis and Preparation of a Mini Research Paper (5–8 pages, A4 format)
    • Research Presentation

    Full attendance is mandatory for the entire program.

5. Benefits for Participants

  • Certificate of Completion

  • Qualification as a Semi-Direct User (issued by the Basic Science Research Facility)

  • Awards and Prizes for Outstanding Presenters:

    • Dean’s Award from the Institute for General Education (1 recipient)
    • Dean’s Award from the Basic Science Research Facility (1 recipient)
    • Excellence Award (2 recipients)
    • Encouragement Award (3 recipients)
