Recording the Stories of Korean Americans in U.S. Politics: A Conversation with Documentary Filmmaker Joseph Juhn
"We may see the world differently, but when we recognize each other as human beings, we create solidarity stronger than any differences." – Joseph Juhn
You are invited to a conversation with filmmaker Joseph Juhn, a former lawyer turned documentary storyteller capturing the narratives of the diaspora. His latest work, "Chosen", chronicles the journeys of five Korean American candidates who ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2020 elections. The documentary delves beyond the campaigns, exploring diverse issues within the Korean American community, including the 1992 LA Riots, race relations, LGBTQ+ matters, and generational conflicts. Particularly, it sheds light on how Korean immigrants began to form their identity as "Korean Americans" in the aftermath of the LA Riots.
