The Institute of Social Sciences in SNU conducts in-depth research on various methodologies and hosts methodology forums for interdisciplinary exchange. The third research methodology seminar of the 2024 second semester will be held as follows, and we invite your active participation.
< Qualitative Field Research as Reflection and Interpretation >
Qualitative field research in sociology is sometimes misunderstood as being conducted through intuition and tacit knowledge, rather than through systematic methodological training. However, qualitative field research requires researchers to make continuous methodological and theoretical choices throughout the entire process, including the construction of the research subject, observation, data generation, interpretation, and theorization. This seminar aims to reveal the various choices researchers face in qualitative field research by utilizing diverse case studies.
