Jacques Derrida's Legal Philosophy
-
Date and Time: Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
-
Presenter: Saem Choi | Korea University Law Research Institute
-
Abstract: Jacques Derrida exposes the limitations inherent in modern theories and projects, advocating for reconstruction through deconstruction. In his deconstructive theory of justice, infinite and incalculable justice transcends, deconstructs, and remains something to 'come' in the future. Legal justice emerges through a continual process of deconstruction and reconstruction, derived from the interaction between the present and a near-future tense. By reinterpreting Derrida's philosophy, this presentation seeks to explore new foundations for legal reflection. Concepts such as déconstruction, undecidability, aporia, and différance are used to reconsider law and justice, exploring whether they can offer new alternatives.
