  • Date & Time: Friday, October 18, 2024, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Venue: Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies (Building 103), Main Conference Room (Room 444)

China, The Standard of a Lost Civilization (2024)
  • Presenter: Bae Woo-Sung (University of Seoul)
  • Discussant: Woo Kyung-Seop (Inha University)

The book to be discussed at this colloquium, China, The Standard of a Lost Civilization (2024), examines Korean history through the concept of 'Sinocentrism.' It dynamically explores how the meaning of Sinocentrism, beyond the dichotomy of China and the 'barbarians,' has been constructed and dismantled by various social groups at different times and in different societies within the context of center-periphery relationships. We invite you on an intriguing journey through both pre-modern and modern times, offering diverse perspectives on Sinocentrism and the historical contexts behind them.
