Hello. We are the Research and Education Capacity Enhancement Team of the Department of History, College of Humanities, Seoul National University. We are a research and education team dedicated to fostering innovative talents in Korean history, leading the global historical community.
Starting from March 2023, the Department of Korean History, Department of Eastern History, and Department of Western History at Seoul National University have been integrated into the Department of History. As part of the capacity enhancement project on the occasion of the establishment of the department, we have organized a special lecture on ecological history, which examines history from the perspective of climate and ecological environment, in collaboration with the BK Education and Research Team of the Graduate School of Korean History.
The term 'Anthropocene,' which signifies human activities becoming a destructive force to the Earth's environment, has been a global topic for quite some time. Climate change is now referred to as a climate emergency, and other species are rapidly becoming extinct due to human-induced environmental destruction. The existing civilization that humans have built is also under threat.
In light of this situation, we have organized a total of six planned lectures with the intention of moving beyond a human-centered view of history and creating a new historiography. We invite undergraduate and graduate students as well as anyone interested to participate actively.
Best regards, Research and Education Capacity Enhancement Team Department of History, College of Humanities, Seoul National University Leading the global historical community and fostering innovative talents in Korean history
