We are pleased to announce the launch of the XR Policy Hackathon, and are seeking participation among undergraduate or graduate teams in the Asia Pacific region. The Hackathon is hosted by the Artificial Intelligence Institute at Seoul National University in South Korea (AIIS) and Meta (formerly Facebook).
The emerging Metaverse will bring new opportunities for communities and individuals to flourish and transcend limitations imposed by their current environments. At the same time, we are also acutely aware of the potential for the Metaverse to raise novel safety, wellbeing, equity, inclusion, and privacy challenges. But the metaverse is still evolving and its full potential is being carved out. The XR Policy Hackathon will provide an opportunity to participate in this evolution and define some of its governing policies.
Seoul National University and Meta invite you to participate in this Policy Hackathon with the theme ? “Building Community and Well Being in the Metaverse”. Application for the Policy Hackathon is now open, with the deadline of 7 July 2023. Participants are expected to submit a proposal for a real world scenario addressing opportunities, challenges, or both, in building community and well-being in the metaverse (within 500-1000 words).
The Policy Hackathon will be in three rounds. In the first round, two best policy scenario will be picked from various scenarios submitted by participants across the Asia Pacific ? also to be awarded with Meta Oculus Quest 2 Headsets. The teams whose policy proposals are selected in the second round (“finalists”) will be invited to attend the XR Hub Korea Conference expected to be held in Seoul, Korea in October 2023. The winner for each scenario will be selected at the Conference, the third round, by a final presentation in front of a panel of judges.
More details on the application process as well as a sample scenario can be found on our official website (https://
We greatly appreciate if you could promote the Policy Hackathon among your colleagues and affiliates to engage in this fascinating experience.
