Professors YOON Jung-Hwan and Lee Jeong-Hoon
Professors YOON Jung-Hwan and LEE Jeong-Hoon, and Green Cross Cell have co-developed a treatment for liver cancer which lowers the death rate by 79 percent. The treatment involves incubating 120ml of the patient’s blood for two to three weeks in a clean laboratory. When cytokine-induced killer cell (CIK) mass proliferates, the blood is reinjected into the patient. One injection provides approximately 6.4 billion immunocytes to attack the liver cancer cells. The team tested this new treatment in a trial of 230 patients divided into two groups. After two years, the group that received the treatment had a recurrence rate which was 37% lower than the group that did not receive the treatment. After four years, the former group showed a death rate 79% lower. Patients must receive sixteen injections for the new treatment to have a curative effect.
