Professors YI Kwangkeun and Chung-Kil HUR (Department of Computer Science and Engineering) developed ‘VeriDraw,’ a public kindergarten entrance selection program. Currently, each public kindergarten holds a public drawing where prospective students and their parents come to draw lots. The new program would save a lot of time and energy by taking this online. The developers explained that VeriDraw is modeled after the US lottery. Under this system, each applicant is assigned a random number upon applying to a kindergarten. The program then comes up with different combinations of numbers using the numbers of new students and automatically selects students accordingly. To achieve fairness and transparency, parents can check the selection process afterwards online.
