Professor Zhang Byoung-Tak (Department of Computer Science and Engineering), a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence, had an interview with Maeil Business Newspaper. “When I returned to Korea in 1995 after receiving my doctorate degree, people asked me why I studied artificial intelligence. Today there are smartphones, robots, IoT and cloud computing,” he said. Professor Zhang is currently developing ‘Pororobot,’ and ‘home robot.’ Pororobot is an artificial intelligence robot that can have conversations (even in English) with children. Home robot would help working mothers by waking children up in the morning, memorizing their class schedules and taking care of school supplies. “My goal is to make robots that can absorb and apply information by themselves,” said Professor Zhang. “Not many Korean companies are interested in artificial intelligence. Korean companies should invest in artificial intelligence R&D as other global companies do.”
