Professor Kang Chang Uh (Department of German Language and Literature) made public his research results on patients’ illness experiences through the website www.healthstory4u.co.kr. Modeled after the UK’s DIPEx Project, this research was jointly conducted by seventeen professors from diverse backgrounds including medicine, linguistics and computer science to record and preserve how patients reacted when diagnosed with serious illnesses. For this, starting in 2009, the research team interviewed 278 patients and their family members and recorded over 1300 videos. The results of this research are already being used as class material in Korea University and Dankook University medical schools. Professor Kang believes this will “help patients obtain accurate and verified information instead of inaccurate medical information online.”
