The SNU Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology has succeeded in developing Korea’s first intelligent vehicle, AEV-1. Director LEE Chung-Goo of the Intelligent Vehicle Platform Center announced that it has undergone test driving of 100 kilometers on the Institute’s premises. The car’s maximum speed is 80 kilometers per hour and it can sense any object within 80 meters. With four censors, it sends out radars and distinguishes traffic signs as well as creates real time driving maps. However, under current Korean traffic laws, driving an intelligent vehicle on public roads is illegal, so the AEV-1 cannot be test driven on public roads. Director Lee urged that current traffic laws be revised so as to allow for the driving of intelligent vehicles.
