Professor Kahp-Yang SUH
Professor SUH Kahp-Yang (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), who passed away last year while attending the ISGMA conference in Hawaii, was listed as co-author of the article “Ultrasensitive mechanical crack-based sensor inspired by the spider sensory system” which was published in Nature on December 11. Professor Suh was chosen as one of the ‘Innovators Under 35’ by the MIT Technology Review in 2004 and had written 180 SCI papers before his death. Professor CHOI Mansoo CHOI (Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) and KANG Daeshik, the researcher who first came up with the idea, carried on with their research after the death of Professor Suh and succeeded in developing sensors based on nanoscale crack junctions and inspired by the geometry of a spider’s slit sense organ.
