Professor KIM Heebal
Professor Kim Heebal (Program in Animal Science and Biotechnology), a member of the Avian Genome Consortium, was listed as co-author of “Comparative genomics reveals insights into avian genome evolution and adaptation” published in journal Science. Over the last 4 years, several hundred scientists in over 20 countries have conducted a joint research project to analyze the genome of 48 birds and found that there was a ‘big bang’ in avian evolution after the extinction of dinosaurs. Eight papers were published in the special edition of Science and another 21 were published in other science journals. Professor Kim’s research focused on brain related genome evolution of vocal learning birds compared to vocal nonlearners.
