Seoul National University honors the people who made distinguished achievements in their lives with the Distinguished SNU Members Award. It has been the highest honor bestowed upon SNU alumni or faculty since 1991. The award is granted annually on the founding anniversary of the university during the official anniversary ceremony.
Chung, Suk-gyoo
Founding Chairman of Shinyang Cultural Foundation
Chairman CHUNG Suk-gyoo (1929-2015) contributed to the development of Korean rubber industry, and provided great support for the young generation by funding scholarships and university research projects. He founded Shinyang Cultural Foundation in 1998 and donated three buildings at SNU. He later donated the foundation itself to SNU before his death.
Lee, Jong-wook
Director-General of World Health Organization
Doctor LEE Jong-wook (1945-2006) has devoted his life to solving human health problem. He started his career at the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1983 as a leprosy consultant in South Pacific, and served as Director of Director-General of WHO between 2003 and 2006.
