On May 2, the last day of SNU’s Spring Festival, more than 1000 members of the school’s faculty, staff, and student body came together to sing as one voice at “Sing! SNU.” They gathered at the SNU presidential lawn for a six-song flash mob performance. A total of 10 groups partook in the event including the University Choir, the Faculty Choir, and the Staff Choir.

Sing, SNU! was organized by SNU alumnus Kim Hyun-soo (Department of Vocal Music), a former contestant on singing competition program Phantom Singer, student council president Do Jung-geun, President of the Faculty Choir Cho Chul-won (Department of English Language and Literature), and SNU union leader Park Jong-seok. Professor Kim Young Yul (College of Music) conducted the orchestral accompaniment. Those who could not make it could participate by live streaming the event on YouTube.

The songs included in the program were chosen by a survey of the SNU student body. The six songs were: "Don't You Worry" by Wild Camomile, "To You" by Shin Hae Chul, "Into the New World" by Girls' Generation, “We Are the Champions” by Queen, “Amor Fati” by Kim Yeon Ja, and "My Arirang" by The Immortal. Participants danced to the lively trot song “Amor Fati” and put their arms around each other and swayed for “My Arirang.”

Sing! SNU was held to raise the sense of community among SNU members and encourage them to reflect on the meaning of contribution to the nation and its diverse communities. Through this event, the SNU Institute for Global Social Responsibility (IGSR) raised 100 million won, which was donated to the Seoul Center for Independent Living, an organization that helps empower people with disabilities become self-sufficient.
