Film is one of most influential visual media in contemporary society and understanding it will offer keys to understanding many cultural issues and social phenomena. This semester, Seoul National University Museum presents"Meeting Films in Museum,” showing five films listed below to provide students, staffs, and citizens with great opportunities to experience a variety of culture.

Oct. 25 - Rashomon (羅生門)
Director: Kurosawa Akira, 1950

Taking place in the 8th century, the film illustrates human desire and instinct. Adapted from Ryunosuke Akutagawa's novel 'Rashomon' (as known as 'In the Woods'), it is a masterpiece which transformed the mechanism of modern films. The winner of Golden Lion Award in Venice International Film Festival in 1951 and Academy’s Best Foreign Language Film of the Year in 1952. 
 

 
 

Nov. 8 - Plein Soleil / Purple Noon
Director: Rene Clement, 1960

A suspense film about a young man who schemes to create the perfect crime after killing his friend for his ambition. Based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith, a British detective story writer, it is co-produced by a French and an Italian film company. Starring Alain Delon. 

 
 

Nov. 15 - Flags of Our Fathers
Director: Clint Eastwood, 2006

A film about the Stars and Stripes fixed on the top of Iwo Jima-one of Japan's forte-in the battle of American Navy during World War II.


 

Nov. 22 - Big Fish
Director: Tim Burton, 2004

A fantasy, drama, and comedy film starring Ewan McGregor & Albert Finney.


 

Nov. 29 - He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (A La Folie... Pas Du Tout)
Director: Laetitia Colombani, 2002

This romantic thriller wittily illustrates the nature of love through a story of a girl's extraordinary crush resulting in irreversible outcome. The first feature film of 26-year-old female rookie director Laetitia Colombani, starring Audrey Tautou from showing her ever lovable and charming act once more.
