FLY - A Project for Foreign Students of SNU

Aug 31, 2007

FLY (Friends Love You) Project’ is a program that provides foreign students of SNU with opportunities to share their languages and cultures with the local community members around the campus. Participants are going to teach their own languages and cultures to the elementary school students after school. The participants will receive a certain amount of payment for the classes, but part of the payment will be used for supporting other foreign students who have economic difficulties and for funding exchange activities for Korean & Foreign students. Anyone who is strongly interested in sharing their culture, volunteer work, and giving a contribution to the local community is welcome to join us!

The FLY program is organized and will be managed by SNU SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) which is one of the branch communities of SIFE, an international non-profit organization sponsored by firms and educational institutions. The organization has been supporting undergraduate students who are highly interested in economic problems in the local community and are eager to make a contribution to the society. More than 200 universities from approximately 50 countries around the world are taking part in various activities organized by SIFE. SNU SIFE was founded in April 2007 and currently has 16 members in Gwanak campus.

Goals of FLY:
1) Understand foreign students’ economic difficulties and help them to overcome the situation.
2) Elevate self-esteem of foreign students through contributing to the local community and encourage them to better understand the community.
3) As the demand for exchange or study-abroad students increases every year, SNU SIFE is trying to settle this program as a continuous ‘adaptation program’ for them.
