Cynthia Maung is a doctor who participated in the 1988 Myanmar pro-democracy movement. After the military coup, she moved to Thailand and opened the Mae Tao Clinic on the Thai-Myanmar border as a refugee. She has provided medical services to ethnic minorities, refugees and migrant workers since 1989. She received international trust and respect for her dedication to promoting health as a human right and the impact of human rights violations on health and also improving the education and health of minorities, migrants, refugees, and children under conflict situations.
