SNU English Homepage To Be Renewed

SNU Renewed Its Homepage for the Disabled
SNU English Homepage To Be Renewed by October

The former website and the renewed website

The SNU homepage (http://www.snu.ac.kr) has been renewed. Following the directive of the Act to Abolish Discrimination against the Disabled, the SNU Department of Public Relations launched the revamped homepage on July 1. The disabled people will find the renewed homepage easier to use.

A Homepage the Blind Can ‘Listen To’

The most outstanding trait of the new homepage is the audio function that enables the blind to “listen to” the content of the homepage. People who are blind or have weak eyesight will use a special computer that doesn’t need a mouse. They will use the keyboard and listen to the voice reading aloud the information. One only has to press the tab key to move around freely in the new homepage. Also, the visual information will be conveyed by providing separate vocalized information. SNU is the first university among the major universities in Seoul to make a homepage with an audio function for the blind. This shows that SNU recognizes the importance of sharing information with the rest of the society, including the disabled.

Change in Design: Menu on the Right

SNU has adopted an A4 size design, making the homepage more reader-friendly. The menu is lined up on the right hand side. Also, the new main design is similar to the old design, but uses the official university colors (blue, yellow and grey) to create a more powerful impression.

The SNU Department of Public Relations is planning to obtain a certification that confirms the new homepage satisfies the government’s special requirements regarding accessibility for the disabled. Afterwards, the Department of Public Relations will cooperate with other departments to make their homepages more user-friendly for the disabled people as well.
