Lloyd’s Register Funds £M for SNU's Marine Engineering Research

Seoul National University held an official joint event with Lloyd's Register (Chairman D. Moorhouse) for the establishment of SNU LRET fund research center and the support for research expenses.

Lloyd's Register, one of the four major classification societies will provide research fund of £million for SNU from 2008 until 2012. Classification societies are non-profit certificate authorities that provide quality classification services. About 25% of ships around the world are inspected by the regulations of Lloyd's Register.

The Lloyd's Register Group recently established LRET(Lloyd's Register Educational Trust), and have supported institutions such as University of Southampton in England, National University of Singapore, with education and finances related to ships. It decided to support SNU last September. The fund will be used for research on basic science and marine engineering.
