Training for Professionals with Executive Potential at the Graduate School of Business

The Graduate School of Business at Seoul National University, which was founded in August, 2006, is world-class in key measures such as the ratio of salary increases after graduation, achievement in research by professors, the proportion of professors from other countries, and the number of students from other countries.

SNU Business School was given full accreditation by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) in September 2002. This was the first accreditation for a Korean college and the fourth of its kind in Asia. The AACSB, of which members are the deans of approximately 1,200 business schools out of 4,000 in the US, sets the educational standard for business schools and award accreditation for the universities that meet the standards through rigorous examination.

This year, the GSB has signed a comprehensive strategic alliance with the Fuqua Business School of Duke University, one of the leading business schools in the world. Duke University was ranked third by the Financial Times in the 2005 global ranking of E-MBA programs. The SNU Global MBA program provides an optional dual-degree program that allows students to receive a Duke degree and an SNU degree. To apply for the dual-degree program, GMAT and TOEFL scores should meet the admission criteria of Duke University. Applicants must go through a screening process and complete interviews with both SNU and Duke University.

GSB accepted its first graduate students in August 2007. All of those first graduate students have received job offers with an average salary increase of 50% compared to their former salary. The average GMAT score of the second freshmen class exceeds the admission criteria of Harvard Business School, 710, by 4 points and 12 students from 8 different countries registered for the program. In-sun Hwang(황인선), one of the first graduates, guarantees that the year in the MBA program will change students’ lives, mentioning that “It is important to have discussions and communication with distinguished colleagues from various backgrounds as well as learn about global standards.”

GSB provides various Study Tour Programs as well. The first graduate students were given opportunities to visit Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Japan. The visits were made to companies representing various industries: Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and Toyota. Hee-eun Lee(이희은), who participated in the 2006 Hong Kong Study Tour, mentioned that the introduction and Q&A session were very helpful to understand the traits of each of the world-class financial companies and that she herself had aquired a lot of valuable advice and information from the SNU alumni who worked in Hong Kong.

Now the MBA program at GSB is moving towards ranking within the top 10 business programs in the world.
