Go Dutch!

Seoul National University strives to make an impact on the world as it makes every effort to become more identified with the term "global". The university has begun many programs abroad with partner schools around the world, but more importantly, it fosters several foreign events on campus to bring the world to SNU as well.

On Wednesday, May 9 the Office of International Affairs (OIA) along with the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) held an event for Korean students to experience the culture of the Netherlands. This event, named 'Go Dutch', was buzzing with Korean SNU students who were interested in the activities offered, such as tasting traditional Dutch cookies and trying on Dutch costumes. Along with the cultural experiences, there were information sessions about studying in Holland, as well as presentations about Dutch education and everyday life. The event was met with a great response. A student from the College of Law, KIM Hyun-tae ’08, spoke highly of the event, stating, "My younger sibling will be going to the Netherlands to study pretty soon so I stopped by the booths. It was the first time I saw such an event on campus, and so it was very interesting and unique. I had a lot of fun."

Dutch syrup waffles Events such as 'Go Dutch' are highly welcome and serve not only as an informative experience but one that creates ties between nations, and students, that are thousands of kilometers apart. By tasting a stroopwafel, a traditional Dutch syrup waffle, SNU students are opening their palate, and mind, to another culture that is unfamiliar to them. And as SNU continues to hold events like 'Go Dutch', it will move closer and closer to becoming a more global, world-class university.
